Defensive Rifle 1.0 introduces students to the effective use of the semi-automatic modern sporting rifle. The curriculum is specifically geared toward the civilian who wishes to learn how to use the MSR to defend themselves and their loved ones. This is not a bullseye-target-shooting or precision rifle class. We will be working from 50 yards in, learning basic tactical shooting techniques.

Participants will learn:
-The foundational principles of shooting the modern sporting rifle, including stance, grip/mounting, sight acquisition, trigger press, and follow through.
-How to load, unload/clear the rifle, as well as proper use of a sling
-Defensive mindset, shooting to stop the threat, shot accountability
-Quick and efficient reloading of the rifle (emergency and tactical)
-How to clear common malfunctions and quickly get back into action
-How to properly identify and shoot from cover and other basic tactical shooting skills

Note: Participants must possess and present a valid Massachusetts LTC (resident or non-resident). Students should already practice excellent gun safety and be familiar with how their firearm functions. If you are new to the modern sporting rifle or need a refresher, look into taking our Rifle Skill Builder. Also, this course requires physical activity, including periods of rapid movement and kneeling. Please be realistic about your abilities.
